New Amenity Arrives at the DFC
The Duke Faculty Club and its members received an early holiday present this past December with the arrival of a beautiful Finnish sauna. In partnership with Yah Sauna, a local Chapel Hill company, the Club debuted its first-ever sauna unit—built entirely by hand and designed to offer both heat and steam. The DFC is serving as a pilot location, with the unit on loan for the winter months.
The response has been immediate and enthusiastic. Within the first month alone, the sauna logged nearly 1,000 reservations, quickly becoming the most popular amenity at the Club. Member feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many leaving gleeful notes and commentary on the pads provided in the enclosed porch area:
- This is an amazing addition to the DFC!
- Thanks to everyone who had a hand in making this possible.
- Wonderful addition! Please do every year.
- Love! So restorative. Thank you!
- This is fabulous!
- Wonderful, fun, healthy, and so invigorating!
- This sauna is amazing!
- Great early start to my day—thank you, DFC!

To ensure a safe, clean, and enjoyable experience for all, the Club has implemented a number of policies and procedures to support smooth operation. Reservations are available through Court Reserve in 30-minute increments throughout the day, with a maximum of four participants per session. At this time, the sauna is available to members aged 18 and over, and all participants are required to sign a user agreement prior to use.
While the addition has brought some extra maintenance and upkeep for DFC staff, the consensus is clear: the sauna has been a tremendously positive and well-loved addition to the Club.
