Opportunities
Tennis/Pickleball Instructors
Under the direction of the Tennis Director, DFC Tennis/Pickleball Instructors are responsible for teaching tennis programming for DFC members.
Work Performed:
- Provide competent tennis instruction for all groups and levels, including but not limited to juniors, adults, and seniors.
- Assist patrons, answer questions, and maintain a positive experience for members and tennis participants.
- Keep management informed of member and facility needs.
- Assist in the oversight of all DFC facilities insuring safety and cleanliness; Enforce all DFC rules and regulations governing the use of its facilities, equipment and other property.
- Assist the DFC management staff in other club related activities and events as required.
- Work to create a welcoming and vibrant environment that promotes safety, quality customer service, and excellence.
Skills/Experience:
- USPTA or PTR certification preferred.
- Previous experience instructing adults and juniors.
- Demonstrated administrative and management abilities, excellent interpersonal skills, high levels of energy, enthusiasm and motivation, maturity, and the ability to work effectively with members and other professional staff.
- Requires flexible work hours such as evenings and weekends.

LIFEGUARDS
DFC Lifeguards are charged with monitoring activities in all swimming areas, recognizing and responding quickly and effectively to all emergencies, and providing excellent customer service. Must be a competent swimmer and have current Lifeguarding/CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
- Starting Pay: $15.00/hour
- Hours: 10-25 hours/week (2-4 shifts anywhere between 9:00am and 9:00pm during the pool season)
HEAD LIFEGUARDS
DFC Head Guards are charged with being the on-site supervisors all hours that the Main/Wading Pools are open. Along with the responsibilities assigned to all lifeguards, Head Guards have additional responsibilities with water quality/physical safety of the pool, daily documentation, and effectively managing the lifeguard staff in conjunction with the Recreation Program Manager.
- Starting Pay: $17.00/hour
- Hours: 30-40 hours/week (4-6 shifts anywhere between 9:00am and 9:00pm during the pool season)
SWIM INSTRUCTORS
DFC Swimming Instructors will spend the summer teaching patrons how to swim or to swim more efficiently. Instructors will be charged with providing fun, challenging, and creative experiences for the students in their lessons. No teaching experience necessary, but must be energetic, engaging, and a great communicator.
- Starting Pay: $20.00/hour
- Hours: 4-16 hours/week. One hour group lessons are typically offered in the morning, early, and late afternoon for the first 8 weeks after public school lets out. Private lesson schedule varies according to availability of the instructor.
Pool MANAGER
The Pool Manager assists the Club Director in supervising and managing the aquatics and snack bar programs, including but not limited to staff training and scheduling, supervising and working along side Head Lifeguards, managing and scheduling swim lessons, and assisting DFC staff with summer special events. Must be a competent swimmer and have current Lifeguarding/CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
- Starting pay: $20.00/hour
- Hours: 40 hours/week, from May through August
SNACK BAR MANAGER
The Snack Bar Manager assists the Club Director in supervising and managing the snack bar programs, including but not limited to staff training and scheduling, supervising and working along side the Snack Bar Shift Supervisors, and assisting DFC staff with summer special events.
- Starting pay: $20.00/hour
- Hours: 40 hours/week, from May through August
SWIM TEAM COACHES
DFC Swim Team Assistant Coaches are charged with managing, planning, and implementing competent swim instruction and coaching for all groups and levels of the Duke Faculty Club Aqua Devil swim team. Must possess great communication skills and organizational abilities, as well as be competent swimmers and instructors.
- Starting Pay: $15.00/hour
- Hours: 15-30 hours/week. The 9-week season begins with after-school practices in mid-May, moving to morning practices and weekend meets after school gets out in June, and finishing in early July.
JUNIOR ASSISTANT COACHES
Junior Assistant Swim Coaches are an integral part of the Aqua Devil Coaching Staff. The goal of the Junior Swim Coach program is to further develop skills in organization, teaching, and leadership. Must be 14 years old by May 17, 2023.

- The Swim Team Head Coach will speak with interested swimmers during the first week of practice.
SUMMER CAMP COUNSELORS
DFC Camp Counselors are charged with providing fun, challenging, and creative experiences while actively participating in all camp activities. These staff members lead campers in activities including recreational games and sports, outdoor adventures, nature education, arts & crafts, and field trips. Counselors supervise campers, facilitate programs, and create and foster camp spirit.
- Starting pay: $15.00/hour
- Hours: 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday for the 8 to 9 weeks after public school gets out
SUMMER CAMP Manager
The Summer Camp Manager is responsible for assisting in programming and planning large and small group activities for the DFC Summer Camp, KinderCamp, and LIT programs, as well as overseeing the Extended Camp program. This staff member leads campers and counselors in creative, fun, and age-appropriate activities including outdoor and indoor games, arts & crafts, and field trips. Applicants should possess camp experience or experience working with children in a group setting.

- Hours: 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday for the 8 to 9 weeks after public school gets out
- Potential to work in a planning capacity prior to camp in May
SUMMER KINDERCAMP DIRECTOR
The Summer KinderCamp Director is responsible for programming, planning, and managing large and small group activities for the KinderCamp. This staff member leads campers and counselors in creative, fun, and age-appropriate activities including outdoor and indoor games, arts & crafts, and field trips. Applicants should possess camp experience and experience working with children in a group setting.

SUMMER TENNIS ASSISTANT
The Summer Tennis Assistant will work under the direction of the Tennis Director to assist with tennis camp instruction and DFC tennis programming. In addition, they will offer some private and group lesson instruction to members. Applicants should be able to play tennis at a 4.0+ level and have experience instructing or coaching tennis.

TENNIS CAMP COUNSELORS
DFC Tennis Camp Counselors are outgoing, high energy, and self-motivated staff that work with kids from ages 4-15 years old during our summer tennis camps. Must have competitive tennis experience.

- Hours: 35-40 hours/week, Monday-Friday for the 8 to 9 weeks after public school gets out
SPECIAL EVENTS STAFF
DFC Special Events Staff are akin to summer camp staff (and are, in fact, often one and the same) in that they lead and supervise activities for a variety of youth and family events throughout the year.

- Hours: Mainly evening/weekend events; mini-camps during school holidays
SNACK BAR ATTENDANTS
DFC Snack Bar Attendants are friendly, energetic staff that oversee the daily operations of the Snack Bar and Summer Check-In Desk. Staff are expected to be able to provide excellent customer service, serve food and beverages, work a cash register, answer general questions, and provide a clean and welcoming environment for our members and guests.

- Hours: 5-15 hours/week (1-4 shifts anywhere between 9:00am and 9:00pm during the pool season)
SUMMER FACILITIES ASSISTANTS
The DFC maintenance assistants are an ambitious, friendly, dependable, and self-motivated staff charged with various daily facility maintenance and projects. Applicants should have some prior experience painting, cleaning, using ladders and hand tools.
- Starting pay: $16.00/hour
- Hours: 25-30 hours/week, Monday-Friday during the summer months
PERSONAL TRAINERS
DFC Personal Trainers are responsible for empowering patrons to plan and adhere to specific exercise regimens that will help them achieve their fitness goals. The Duke Faculty Club's fitness education philosophy is that every patron should be able to pursue a healthy lifestyle, independent of our assistance. Personal Training certification from a credible organization and/or a degree in exercise science, physical education or related field (or actively pursuing) is required.

GROUP FITNESS INSTRUCTORS
DFC Fitness Instructors are charged with teaching group fitness classes and workshops. They are responsible for facilitating classes that are challenging, invigorating, and energizing. Group exercise certification from a credible organization and/or a degree in exercise science, physical education or related field (or actively pursuing) is required.

NIGHT/WEEKEND OFFICE STAFF
The Front Office Staff are often the first point of contact for all DFC patrons, thus they are charged with facilitating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. A qualified individual must be friendly, organized, reliable, possess proficient computer skills, and be capable of providing great customer service to DFC members and their guests.
